Original Arenal ATV: La Naciente Mud Trails, La Guaria Village and a Volcanic Mud Mask
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
La FortunaTwo hours of riding, with the timings published stop by stop. It starts on the private farm La Naciente, minutes from downtown La Fortuna: muddy trails, natural puddles, small rivers and streams to cross, and ground uneven enough to keep you working. There is a safety briefing and a short practice ride first, so nobody is learning the machine out on the trail. The route then reaches La Guaria, a village in the countryside with a church and a traditional pulpería, which is where you see how people here actually live. Open trails lead on to the Arenal River, weather permitting, where the group stops for photographs, a fresh fruit snack, and a swim for anyone who wants one. The last section goes back into La Naciente, riding under the rainforest canopy. If the group wants it, there is a stop for volcanic mud, taken from the river and used on the skin, which is where the mud mask in the name comes from. Pick-up and drop-off run about 30 minutes each way, or you can come straight to the office.

Forty-five minutes on the private farm La Naciente, minutes from downtown. This is where the mud is: muddy trails, natural puddles, small rivers and streams to cross, with rainforest on all sides. The ground is bumpy and uneven, which is most of the fun.

A 20-minute ride to La Guaria, a small village out in the Costa Rican countryside. There is a modest church and a traditional pulpería, the village shop, and between them they show the rural life of this area. The riding on this stretch is on open paved roads.

Twenty-five minutes to reach the Arenal River, where the breeze comes off the water and the photographs are the good ones. Anyone who wants to can get in and swim in the clear water.
(30 minutes in the jungle) In this section
Thirty minutes back inside another private section of La Naciente, on muddy trails and rough ground, riding under the rainforest canopy of La Fortuna. If the group wants it, there is a stop for volcanic mud, dug out of the river and used on the skin, which is the closest thing to a spa you will find on a quad. That closes the riding, before the transport back.
La Fortuna de San Carlos
Thirty minutes of drop-off, back to hotels in downtown La Fortuna and the areas around it.
