ANURA runs its night walk on restored ground: 9 lagoons and a lake, linked by a trail rebuilt for the purpose, a few minutes out of La Fortuna. Groups are capped at 8 people per guide. Two hours, with torches. Water is what makes the difference here. Alligators live in the wet areas and are the animal people hope for, alongside frogs in quantity, reptiles, amphibians, night birds and insects that catch the light. The vegetation around the trail was replanted as part of an ecological restoration, so what you walk through is habitat that was deliberately brought back. The guides stop the group at points along the way to listen. Sound is half of what a rainforest does after dark, and it takes standing still to notice it. The trail is level and maintained, which makes the walk workable for families and for anyone carrying a camera.

  2. Explore the hidden life of the forest after sunset in ANURA

The walk runs about two hours on safe, well-maintained trails a few minutes out of La Fortuna, and the subject is what the jungle does once the sun is down. Torches in hand, the group looks for red-eyed frogs, insects that shine, night birds, reptiles, and alligators where the ground is wet. The trail is accessible and the vegetation along it has been restored. At several points the guide stops everyone so the group can listen: the sounds and the patterns of movement that only start after twilight. It works for families, for people who want the ecology and the conservation explained, and for photographers, who get the wildlife active rather than asleep.
