Arenal Night Hike: One Hour in Daylight, One in the Dark
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
La FortunaThe walk starts before dark on purpose. You get about an hour on the trail in daylight and about an hour after it has gone, so you watch the forest change over instead of arriving once it already has. That matters for what turns up. Sloths and birds, toucans among them, are found while there is still light. Frogs and snakes come out once there is not, and the same stretch of forest works differently in the two halves of the walk. The route is a natural trail through the reserve, and what is hidden in it depends on the night.

La Fortuna de San Carlos
The reserve is walked through the twilight transition, which is what puts two sets of animals into one visit: sloths and birds while the light lasts, then frogs, snakes and insects once it has gone.
