Vulcano, Lipari and Stromboli in One Day by Fast Boat
Three islands in a day, on a fast boat, which is what buys the longer stops: the quicker the crossing, the more time on land. Vulcano at 10:15, for an hour and a quarter. The town starts at the landing stage, with shops, bars and jewellers along the main street. The sulphur muds are two minutes' walk away and closed to bathing, though the hot water nearby can be swum in. Five minutes further on are the black beaches. Lipari at 12:00, for two hours and twenty minutes: the archaeological museum, the main street, lunch in a restaurant or a delicatessen, or a boat round the island. Swimming here is not worth planning, because the nearest beaches need a taxi. Stromboli at 16:00, for an hour and a quarter, at the San Vincenzo pier, with the village above it and the water below. Two things to settle before boarding. The commentary on board is in Italian; other languages can be arranged on request, at extra cost. And the municipality of Lipari charges €5 per person to disembark, payable in cash at the port before you get on.

Isola Vulcano
10:15, arrival at Vulcano, Porto di Levante. A stop of about an hour and a quarter. The town begins at the landing stage, and the main street has souvenir shops, bars, jewellers and clothes shops along it. Two minutes' walk away are the sulphur muds, credited with therapeutic properties, which are closed to bathing. The hot water nearby can be swum in. Five minutes from Porto di Levante are the black beaches, for a swim or for walking barefoot along the shoreline.
Lipari
12:00, arrival at Lipari, Marina Corta. A stop of about two hours and twenty minutes. There is plenty to do: the Archaeological Museum of Lipari, the main street, lunch in a restaurant or a delicatessen, or a boat round the island. Swimming is not recommended here, because reaching the nearest beaches means taking a taxi.
Stromboli
16:00, arrival at Stromboli, the San Vincenzo pier. A stop of about an hour and a quarter. Time for the village of San Vincenzo, the shops along the main street, or a swim in the water the Aeolians are known for.
