Stromboli by Night: Thirty Minutes Under the Sciara del Fuoco

The whole schedule is built backwards from one moment. The boat has to be below the Sciara del Fuoco at dusk, so the time ashore shifts through the year with the length of the day. Arrival at Scari, on Stromboli, is at 15:30, with three to four hours on the island depending on the season. That is enough for the village of San Vincenzo, the main street, a swim, and dinner in one of the restaurants if you want it. Departure at 19:30, with boarding ten minutes before at the point the guide gives you. The boat then goes round the island and stops, at a safe distance, below the Sciara del Fuoco, for about half an hour of watching the lava come down it. Back at Tropea at 22:30. The commentary on board is in Italian, English and German. The municipality of Lipari charges €5 per person to disembark, in cash, at the port before boarding.
