The boat leaves Lipari from the Marina Corta pier and runs up the east coast, past Monte Rosa and the bay of Canneto, before crossing to Panarea. The day stretches into the evening, and the reason for the long hours is where it ends: at sunset in front of Strombolicchio, then under the Sciara del Fuoco. Panarea is the smallest of the seven Aeolian islands. The boat passes Cala Junco, clear water below the Capo Milazzese headland, where the remains of a Bronze Age village still stand. Then Cala Zimmari, the longest sandy beach on the island, and the scatter of islets offshore: Dattilo, Lisca Bianca, Lisca Nera, Bottaro and the Panarelli. There is free time at the port of San Pietro, where footpaths lead off into the island past shops, bars and restaurants. Stromboli comes next, past the islets of Basiluzzo and Spinazzola. From the water the first thing you notice is white houses against black sand. The boat lands at Scari in the afternoon and the time ashore is yours: a swim from one of the beaches or coves, or a walk up through town to the terrace by the church of San Vincenzo, which looks out over Strombolicchio. In the early evening the boat heads for Strombolicchio, a 43 metre rock shaped like a medieval castle with a lighthouse on top. The last stretch is at the foot of the Sciara del Fuoco, the steep slope down Stromboli's flank, before the slow run back to Lipari. There is a restroom on board. Dinner is not included. Guiding is in English and Italian, and a booking takes up to 30 travelers. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.

  1. Piazza di Marina Corta, Lipari

Face the right arm of the dock, past the white awnings. Every boat has Regina Eolie written on it. A member of staff takes care of boarding.

  2. Lipari

Boarding at the Marina Corta pier, then along Lipari's east coast past Monte Rosa and the bay of Canneto, heading for Panarea.

  3. Panarea

The smallest of the seven islands, known today for its good looks and its VIP clubs. First comes Cala Junco, clear water below the Capo Milazzese headland, where the remains of a Bronze Age village are still standing. Next is Cala Zimmari, the longest sandy beach on Panarea, and beyond it the islets of Dattilo, Lisca Bianca, Lisca Nera, Bottaro and the Panarelli, a small archipelago of their own. At the port of San Pietro there is time to go ashore. Several walks start from there into the island, past quiet corners and views, shops, restaurants and bars, and the small villages.

  4. Stromboli

Next the boat sails for Stromboli, past the islets of Basiluzzo and Spinazzola. This is Iddu, fourth island of the archipelago by size and the best known of them all. Running along its coast, the white houses stand out against the black sand. In the afternoon you land at the port of Scari. There is plenty of choice: a swim in dark blue water from one of the many beaches and coves around the island, or a walk through the town centre and its shops up to the terrace in front of the church of San Vincenzo, which looks over Strombolicchio and the town.

  5. Strombolicchio

In the early evening the boat leaves for Strombolicchio, an islet shaped like a medieval castle that rises 43 metres from the sea, with a lighthouse at the top. The day ends below the Sciara del Fuoco, the steep slope on the side of Stromboli. Then the boat pulls slowly away and heads back to Lipari. The rest of the time goes on crossings between stops and free time.

  6. Piazza di Marina Corta, Lipari
