Vesuvius Only, Picked Up at the Pompeii Gate
This one is the volcano on its own. The pick-up is at the main entrance to the Pompeii ruins, which suits anyone who has already spent the morning in the ruins, or who is going in afterwards. The minibus takes up to 14 people, and a hiking guide meets the group at the gate and stays with it. From the Vesuvius entrance the first 30 minutes of the climb are steep. What is at the top is the crater, deep and still quiescent, and the rim to walk along. From up there the Gulf of Naples is laid out below, with the country around it.
