The Golden Circle Plus a Snowmobile on Langjökull
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
ReykjavikThe Golden Circle first, then the part that separates this one from the rest: a snowmobile across Langjökull, the second-largest glacier in Iceland. Þingvellir comes first, where the first Icelandic parliament sat from 930, in a rift valley opened by the North American and Eurasian plates pulling apart. At the Geysir field the ground steams and Strokkur goes off every few minutes, so nobody has to stand around waiting for it. Gullfoss drops in two stages into its canyon, and it is loud enough that you hear it before you see it. Then Langjökull. From the glacier base the group rides out onto the ice itself, with the peaks and the highlands around and not much between you and the horizon. Transport is a Super Jeep, either the 1-10 seat or the 1-16 seat version.

Thingvellir National Park
Þingvellir National Park, where Iceland's first parliament met from 930, which makes it one of the oldest anywhere. The walk goes through the rift valley that the North American and Eurasian plates opened between them.
Geysir
The Geysir geothermal field: hot springs, mud pools that bubble, and Strokkur, which goes off every few minutes rather than making anyone wait. It is the clearest look at what the ground here is doing.
Gullfoss Falls
Gullfoss, one of the biggest waterfalls in Iceland. The glacial river drops in two stages into a deep canyon, and the noise carries. The name means Golden Falls, said to come from the light and the rainbows in the spray on a sunny day.
Langjokull Glacier
Langjökull is the second-largest glacier in Iceland, and the snowmobile ride is what most people book this trip for. From the base on the ice the group rides out onto the glacier itself, with the highlands open around it and nothing but ice ahead.
