The Golden Circle Plus a Snowmobile on Langjökull

The Golden Circle first, then the part that separates this one from the rest: a snowmobile across Langjökull, the second-largest glacier in Iceland. Þingvellir comes first, where the first Icelandic parliament sat from 930, in a rift valley opened by the North American and Eurasian plates pulling apart. At the Geysir field the ground steams and Strokkur goes off every few minutes, so nobody has to stand around waiting for it. Gullfoss drops in two stages into its canyon, and it is loud enough that you hear it before you see it. Then Langjökull. From the glacier base the group rides out onto the ice itself, with the peaks and the highlands around and not much between you and the horizon.
