Teide, the 16-Metre Drago and the Roque de Garachico
Eight to nine hours out of the south of the island, with the pick-up time chosen when you book, somewhere between 7 and 9 am. Teide National Park has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007, and the guided walk covers the ravines, the valleys and the lava formations under a peak of 3,718 metres, the highest in Spain. Icod de los Vinos comes next: the old centre, the church of San Marcos, and the Drago Milenario, the oldest tree in the Canary Islands and more than 16 metres tall. Lunch happens here, at your own pace and your own expense, and Canarian food is what to look for. Garachico is a seaside town with the Roque de Garachico standing 300 metres off it, which is the rock in every photograph of the place. Masca comes last, a hamlet inside the Macizo de Teno. Two practical notes. The order of the visits can change for organisational reasons. And if you are staying in Puerto de la Cruz, La Orotava, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Santa Cruz or anywhere else in the north, book the northern version of this trip instead: pick-ups run from Santa Cruz on Fridays and from Puerto de la Cruz on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Cancellation is free up to three days before the day of the activity, which is a longer window than most.
