La Palma from Tenerife: the Tajogaite Lava, 2021
Ratings collected by Civitatis
Port of Los CristianosThe eruption started on 19 September 2021 and it is the most recent in the Canary Islands. This day trip goes to see what it left behind. The ferry leaves from the Port of Los Cristianos in south Tenerife and takes two and a half hours to Santa Cruz de La Palma, where the guided walk covers the colonial architecture of the old town. The return ferry gets in around 7:30 pm, so the day is a long one at both ends. Inland, the Mirador de la Cumbrecita looks into the Caldera de Taburiente National Park. Depending on the package you book, lunch is taken at El Paso. Then the volcano. The vegetation changes as the road climbs towards Tajogaite, on the Cumbre Vieja ridge, and the guide covers how the Canary Islands were built and what people here lived through, including the Teneguía eruption of 1971. Tacande gives the clearest view of the cone. Tazacorte is where you get out onto the lava flows themselves, and where a Canarian lunch of two traditional dishes is served. The last stop is the Mirador de Tajuya, before the drive back to Santa Cruz and the ferry. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the start.
