Roque de los Muchachos by Night, Private, Next to the Observatories
Roque de los Muchachos is the highest point on La Palma and the reason the island has the reputation it does for night skies. The observatories up there are among the most advanced anywhere, and this tour runs on the same ground while they are working. The telescope is a professional instrument built for deep-sky observation: planets, nebulae, star clusters and galaxies well outside our own. The guide has years behind them in both observing and astrophotography, which shows in the way questions get answered. Every booking is private. Nobody else is in the group, so the time at the eyepiece is yours and the pace follows whatever you are interested in. One practical thing, and it matters. At 2,000 metres the night is very cold. Come dressed for it. The meeting point is in front of the museum at Roque de los Muchachos. Look for a dark grey Mazda and a white telescope.
