Rio Celeste Waterfall with Slothland Bijagua: Sloth Reserve, Coffee, Chocolate and Lunch
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
La FortunaThe first half of the day is Tenorio Volcano National Park: the Rio Celeste running turquoise, the rainforest around it, and the volcano in view above the trees. The crater cannot be climbed, so Tenorio is something you look at rather than something you summit. The second half moves to Slothland, a private reserve at Bijagua. Sloths live there loose inside protected forest, and the walk through the property turns up toucans, monkeys and frogs alongside them. After that comes a coffee and chocolate farm, worked the artisan way, taken from the plant through to the tasting at the end. Lunch is a typical Costa Rican meal with a drink and a dessert, and the price already covers it. Transport is a separate arrangement: contact the operator in advance if you need it.

Head for Tenorio Volcano National Park.
Parque National Volcan Tenorio
What the park holds: The Rio Celeste, the main attraction, running an intense turquoise that comes out of a natural process found in very few places. The rainforest, dense and carrying a wide range of plants and animals. Tenorio Volcano. The crater cannot be climbed, so the volcano is something to look at from below rather than to summit. Then the private reserve at Slothland, where lunch is served and a walk through the property turns up sloths, toucans, monkeys and frogs where they belong. The last stop is a coffee and chocolate farm, and the subject there is how both are made by hand, Costa Rican style.
Slothland Bijagua offers an authentic experience that…
Slothland Bijagua puts three things together: the animals, the farming and the food. The sloth sanctuary comes first, and the sloths move freely inside protected forest rather than being kept. The chocolate and coffee tour is hands-on, running from the plant in the ground to the tasting at the end, on traditional Costa Rican flavours. A typical lunch with a drink and a dessert is included in the price. All of it happens at Bijagua.
