Five to six hours around Mount Fuji with a native English speaker who has lived here a long time, in a private van and on foot, at a pace nobody sets but you. Asama Shrine starts it. The cedars there are over 1,200 years old, and it is the oldest shrine in the area and part of the Mount Fuji World Cultural Heritage listing. Haha no Shirataki, Mother's White Falls, is close by, with Fuji and Lake Kawaguchiko behind it. Aokigahara Jukai is the reason to book this one rather than a coach. The Sea of Trees grows on lava laid down by the eruption of 864 AD and covers 30 square kilometres. The walk goes in at the Wild Birds Forest Park, among moss-covered trees rooted in black rock. The Dragon Cave, Ryugu Doketsu, is a National Monument and is on the route. Depending on the weather and the clock, the day can add the Climax Forest at 1,200 metres on the mountain itself. The drive circles Lake Kawaguchiko and Lake Saiko, which sits at the centre of the five lakes, stopping wherever the view of Fuji is worth it, and the last stop is sunset at Lake Shoji or back at Saiko and Kawaguchiko. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.

What's included

  1. Mount Fuji

The route circles Lake Kawaguchiko and Lake Saiko, stopping at the viewpoints that earn the stop. Asama Shrine comes first, where the cedars are over 1,200 years old. It is the oldest shrine in the area and part of the Mount Fuji World Cultural Heritage site. Haha no Shirataki, Mother's White Falls, is nearby, with Fuji and Kawaguchiko in view. Then Oishi Flower Park, on the way to Lake Saiko at the centre of the five lakes. Aokigahara Jukai, the Sea of Trees, is entered at Yacho no Mori Koen, the Wild Birds Forest Park. The walk crosses lava laid down by the eruption of 864 AD, across 30 square kilometres of it. The Dragon Cave, Ryugu Doketsu, is a National Monument. Time and weather allowing, there are further walks, including the Climax Forest at 1,200 metres on Mount Fuji. The day ends with sunset at Lake Shoji, or at Saiko and Kawaguchiko.
