Private Etna Helicopter from Fiumefreddo: the Bottoniera and the Donkey's Back
The private version of the flight, with the helicopter to yourselves, from the HeliSicily helipad at Fiumefreddo. Before take-off there is a welcome drink and a briefing with the pilots, which is when you find out what the route will look like from the air. The flight goes over the summit craters, then Piano Provenzana, where the flows that built the row of craters known as la bottoniera lie below in a way no walk at ground level can show. It passes Linguaglossa and Piedimonte Etneo, the old extinct Silvestri craters, and the ridge called the schiena dell'asino, the donkey's back, which leads into the Valle del Bove. The last part follows the 2002 lava flows down to where they came close to Zafferana Etnea, and stopped. Maximum weight per passenger is 105 kg.
