Etna Family Tour: Two Households Max, and an Etna Ranger Badge at the End
Built for families with children, and adapted to how old the children actually are, which is the difference between a walk they enjoy and a walk they endure. The approach is experiential: play, listening, and learning by doing rather than by being told. A maximum of two households go out per tour. That cap is what makes the adapting possible, because a guide can pitch a day to two families and cannot pitch it to twelve. Each child gets a kit: a backpack, a book, a pen, and at the end an Etna Ranger badge. The route runs along the Monti Sartorius, among extinguished craters and old lava flows, and through the white birch forest that grows on Etna. There is an underground cavity where lava once ran, explored with a helmet and a flashlight. The guides are professional environmental and excursion guides. The meeting is on Via Mareneve at Etna Nord. After a briefing there is a five-minute drive to where the path starts. The walk ends at the snow cave, unless the weather says otherwise.
