Poás, La Paz and a Coffee Plantation in Eight Hours
Eight hours from the pick-up, with collections from San José, Heredia and Alajuela. The drive to Poás National Park takes an hour and a half by minibus, and then there is a walk up to the crater. The sulphur announces itself before the rim does. On the way up the vegetation changes visibly, and the guide explains what the altitude is doing to it. Lunch is at a local place after the descent: a traditional Costa Rican dish and a drink. La Paz comes next, a fall of nearly 100 feet dropping into jungle. The last stop is a coffee plantation, where the process is explained from the plant to the cup, and the brand behind it is one of the best known anywhere. Two things to note. The order of the stops and the time spent at each can change with availability. And depending on the departure time you pick when booking, a visit to the La Paz Waterfall Gardens may be part of the day, which makes it a longer one. Cancellation is free up to 16 hours before the start.
