Poás Volcano Half Day: the Sulphur Crater, Past the Strawberry and Fern Farms
Half a day out of San Jose, and the drive up is part of what you see. The road passes coffee plantations and then the farms that work at that altitude: ferns, cut flowers and strawberries. It is a specific kind of countryside rather than a generic green one. At the top, the main crater with its sulphur fumaroles, and the trails through the national park to walk afterwards. Anyone who does not need the hotel pick-up can join the group at the National Theatre in downtown San Jose, or in front of the Hampton Inn in Alajuela. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.
