Volcano Travel · Tour
Pacaya from Antigua at 6am or 2pm: 1.5 Hours Up, Marshmallows on the Lava
Two departures, morning and afternoon: pick-up starts at 6:00 or at 14:00 depending on the booking, and the round takes 10 to 30 minutes. Be at the meeting point five minutes early. The buses are beige Hyundai County vans, and the pick-up is attempted once, so missing it means missing the tour. The entrance fee to the park is Q100, paid separately from the tour price. The road out passes San Juan del Obispo and Santa María de Jesús, a small town in the folds of the Agua volcano ten minutes from Antigua, then San Vicente Pacaya in Escuintla, which is where most of the guides live. The climb takes about an hour and a half on a moderate trail and ends in petrified lava. Pacaya rises over 2,500 m and has been active since 1965. Marshmallows are roasted on the volcanic heat at the top. The bus is waiting at the bottom for the return to Antigua. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.
