A private van for your group only, with air conditioning, reclining seats and a cooler on board. The drive from Antigua to Pacaya Volcano National Park takes an hour and a half. The schedule is set out to the quarter hour. Pick-up at the hotel door at 07:00. Arrival at the park at 08:30. The guide meets you at 08:45 and the walk starts. The top is reached at 11:00, with time up there, and the group is back at the van by 11:30. From 12:30 there is free time for refreshments, with bottled water and a soda or a beer included per person. The transfer back leaves at 13:00 and reaches Antigua at 14:30. The walk is moderate and takes about two hours. Pacaya is one of the most active volcanoes in Central America, 8,300 feet above sea level, and the ground on the way up is dry lava rivers, steam wells, volcanic rock and sand. The other volcanoes stand out around it, and the guide covers the history of this one. With luck, lava is running down the crater while you are there. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.
