Otavalo Market, the Peguche Waterfall and the Ñanda Mañachi Musicians
Ten hours out of Quito, into the province of Imbabura. The road crosses the Guayllabamba valley and stops at the equator monument, on the line itself, then at a bizcocho bakery in Cayambe, where the making is explained and the result is handed round. Otavalo holds the largest indigenous market in Latin America, and the stop there is for buying. The Peguche waterfall is not only scenery: on the eve of Inti Raymi the people of the area take the ritual bath under it. The last stop is the Ñanda Mañachi house, a family home in Peguche, where the traditional band plays and explains the music. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.
