Cotopaxi and Quilotoa in Ten Hours, Through Pujilí and Zumbahua
Two of the most photographed places in Ecuador in one day, which takes about ten hours and is built for people who do not have a second one to spare. The drive to Cotopaxi National Park takes an hour and a half along the Avenue of Volcanoes, across the Andes, with the flora and fauna of the páramo along the road. Cotopaxi is active and 5,897 m high, one of the highest in the world. There is a walk round the Limpiopungo lagoon and stops for photographs where the view earns them. From there it is two hours to Quilotoa, through Pujilí, Tigua and Zumbahua, villages of Panzaleo descent in country that was already settled in Inca times. Lunch is at Quilotoa, and the walk down to the bottom of the lagoon is optional rather than expected. The format is private or small group. No particular fitness is needed. Bring comfortable clothes, a jacket, sunscreen and a camera. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.
