One Metre from the Crater Rim: the New La Palma Volcano on Foot
The walk goes to the volcano that opened on La Palma on 19 September 2021, and it now goes right up to it. The closest point is a metre from the edge of one of its craters. It used to stop about 400 metres short of a different one. Eight kilometres there and back, three and a half to four hours, medium grade, 300 metres of descent and 300 of climb. The ground underfoot is still volcanic ash. Departure is at 08:45 from the La Palma Outdoor office, C/ Antonio Pino Pérez nº1, in El Paso. Weather can turn the route into a linear one that ends at the Las Manchas neighbourhood. Same duration, 6.5 km, 100 metres up and 600 down, with a lift back to the La Palma Outdoor office at the end.
