Mount Batur Sunrise: the Full Trek on Foot, or a Jeep to a Viewpoint

The choice is made when you book, and it changes how much of the mountain you walk. There are two options, and they do not end in the same place. The trek covers the whole climb on foot and finishes on the summit at 1,717 metres, with Lake Batur below. The jeep option drives to a sunrise viewpoint and then crosses the black lava field; no road reaches the top, so the summit is not part of it. Either one can be booked privately, so the pace is yours, or shared with a group. Both leave in the dark and are timed for sunrise. Breakfast is included, with hot tea, coffee or chocolate, and so are all fees and taxes. Your guide takes the photographs. The trek comes with a licensed guide, a head torch, a trekking pole and a water bottle; the jeep option includes a private jeep with its driver. Hotel pickup and drop-off cover Nusa Dua, Jimbaran, Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Sanur, Ubud and Kintamani. Uluwatu, Singaraja, Amed, Tabanan, Karangasem and Bukit Payang street are outside that range. The climb is steady uphill and asks for at least moderate fitness. It is not recommended for pregnant travellers, for anyone with a spinal injury, or for anyone in poor cardiovascular health. Guiding is in English, and one booking takes up to 30 travellers. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.
