Mount Batur Sunrise: a 3:30 am Start, Torchlit Climb and a Coffee Plantation After

Meeting time is 3:30 am, and the whole thing runs 8 to 10 hours depending on how far your hotel is from the mountain. Pick-up is from Kuta or Ubud in an air-conditioned vehicle, and it takes you to the base of Batur. The climb is done in the dark with flashlights, on a mountain lit by whatever moon there is. At the summit, the sunrise comes up over Bali, and breakfast is eaten up there with the lava fields and the lakes spread out below. The way back passes through the Kintamani highlands without stopping, then stops properly at a traditional Balinese coffee plantation before the drop-off at your hotel.
