Mount Batur Sunrise from Toya Bungkah: Base Camp at 3 am, Breakfast at the Top
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
UbudMeeting is at 3 am at the base camp. The trail starts from Toya Bungkah, on the shore of Lake Batur, inside the caldera itself. The walk goes up in the dark with a local guide. From the summit the sunrise comes up above the clouds, with Mount Agung to the south east, Lake Batur below and the volcanic ground of the caldera all round. Breakfast at the top is simple, with hot drinks. The geology is worth knowing while you are standing on it. Batur is an active volcano sitting at the centre of two concentric calderas. The outer one measures 10 by 13 km and holds the lake on its south east side; the inner one is 7.5 km across and was formed when the Bali, or Ubud, ignimbrite was laid down, dated to roughly 23,670 and 28,500 years ago. Hotel pick-up is included, and the road back passes Kintamani on the western caldera wall and the Tegallalang terraces north of Ubud. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.
