Merapi by Jeep: the Bunker, the Mini Museum and the 2010 Eruption
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
YogyakartaA private jeep safari on one of the most active volcanoes in the world, and the subject is what happened here in 2010. That eruption killed 353 people and forced 350,000 out of the area. It was the largest Merapi has produced since the 1870s. The Mini Museum holds the photographs and the record of it, and the guide works through what the mountain did. The route stops at several viewpoints on the way up, the Bunker among them, with the cone in front of you. Pick-up is at your accommodation in Yogyakarta, and the guide covers the history of the region on the drive out. The ground is rough, and the jeep is the reason it can be crossed at all. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.
