Merapi at Dawn, Rappel 59 Metres into Jomblang, Lobster at Timang Beach
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
YogyakartaA mountain, a cave and a beach in one day. Merapi is first, at dawn, in a 4x4 off-road jeep. The air is cold, the mist lifts while you watch, and the mountain goes from dark to lit. It is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Jomblang is entered on rope. The descent runs about 59 metres to the floor of the cave, and from there a slippery, muddy tunnel of roughly 270 metres leads to the place where a shaft of light comes down through the roof. That is what people come for. Timang Beach closes it: blue water, big surf, high cliffs, and the hand-drawn gondola strung across to the islet, which you can take instead of the rope bridge. Lunch there is lobster, landed by the fishermen who work that beach. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.
