Merapi 4WD: the Melted House at Sisa Hartaku and the Kalikuning Crossing
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
YogyakartaPick-up is at your accommodation in Yogyakarta, then a drive to the foothills of Merapi, where the local guide takes over and the car is swapped for a 4WD jeep. The first stop is a house. It belonged to a family, it was caught by the 2010 eruption, and it is now a small museum: household utensils, vehicles and ornaments, all of them melted out of shape. The name of it is Sisa Hartaku, and it does the job no photograph does. Bunker Kaliadem is next, about 6 km from the summit: an emergency shelter built to protect people from eruptions, and the place everyone photographs the mountain from. The last stretch is off-road down to the Kalikuning river, with the crossings that are the reason the vehicle is a jeep. Then the transfer back to your accommodation. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.
