Merapi at Sunrise, the 60-Metre Drop into Jomblang, and Tubing at Pindul

Three places in a day, and they work at different depths. Merapi comes first, at sunrise, from close range in a 4x4 jeep. The driver is the local guide, and Merapi is one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia. Jomblang is 40 km out of Yogyakarta. The descent goes almost 60 metres, 200 feet, straight down, and at the bottom a tunnel runs about 280 metres to the point where a shaft of daylight comes through the roof. That light is the reason people come to this cave. Pindul closes the day and is the gentlest part: floating through the cave on a rubber ring with a local guide, then swimming in the Oyo River and jumping in at the waterfall.
