Landing on Mount Tarawera by Helicopter, with 20 Minutes on the Volcano
A helicopter flight that ends with the skids on the mountain. The route follows the eruption trail across Mount Tarawera, a shape best read from the air, with crater lakes set around it. The pilot flies and guides at the same time, covering the geology and the history of the Northern Lakes district on the way out from Rotorua. Then the landing. Twenty minutes of walking on the volcano itself, close enough to the rock to photograph it rather than the view of it. Tarawera is dormant, and the lakes below it are reason enough for the flight even before the landing. Departure from the Rotorua City Lakefront. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.
