Golden Circle, Secret Lagoon and Kerid Crater Tour from Reykjavik

The Golden Circle with a bath in the middle of it. The Secret Lagoon is fed by a hot spring, and it is the oldest swimming pool in Iceland, which puts it in a different category from the newer spas built to look old. The water is warm and the setting is plain, and that is the appeal. The rest of the day is the standard route, with the crater added. Geysir, where Strokkur is the one that still erupts, every 7 to 10 minutes, since the original stopped. Gullfoss, dropping the Hvítá in two steps, 11 metres then 21, at over 100 cubic metres a second. Þingvellir, where the parliament was founded in the late 900s and the two continental plates pull visibly apart. And Kerið, a volcanic crater 55 metres deep. Food can be bought at the Geysir stop.

  1. Þórunnartún 1, Reykjavík

Tour Bus Stop 12 (64.144389, -21.910327), at Höfðatorg, Þórunnartún 1.

  2. Kerid Crater

Kerið, a volcanic crater 55 metres deep.

  3. Secret Lagoon - Gamla Laugin

The Secret Lagoon is the second best known lagoon in Iceland. It comes from a hot spring, which is what makes it a place to sit in rather than look at.

  4. Golden Circle Route

The Golden Circle covers three very different places: the Geysir geothermal area, Gullfoss waterfall, and Thingvellir national park.

  5. Strokkur

Strokkur is the working one. Geysir, the famous one next to it, no longer erupts; Strokkur does, every 7 to 10 minutes. Food can be bought here.

  6. Gullfoss Falls

Gullfoss, on the Hvítá, drops in two steps of 11 and 21 metres, with more than 100 m³ of water a second.

  7. Thingvellir National Park

Thingvellir counts historically and geologically: the first Icelandic parliament was founded here in the late 900s, and the division between the Eurasian and North American plates is visible.

  8. Þórunnartún 1, Reykjavík
