Golden Circle and Kerid: Strokkur Every 7 Minutes, a Crater 55 m Deep
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
ReykjavikThe standard Golden Circle, with the Kerið crater added to it. One thing worth knowing before you go: the Geysir that gave every geyser in the world its name stopped erupting. What you watch is Strokkur, next to it, which throws water into the air every 7 to 10 minutes and does not keep anybody waiting. Gullfoss drops the Hvítá, the white river, in two steps, 11 metres and then 21, with more than 100 cubic metres of water going through every second. The noise is the part nobody describes. Þingvellir is where the Icelandic parliament was founded in the late 900s, and it is also where the Eurasian and North American plates pull apart visibly enough to walk between them. Kerið is a volcanic crater 55 metres deep, with a lake at the bottom of it. The lunch stop is at Geysir, about 40 minutes, and food can be bought there. Pick-up and drop-off are both in Reykjavík.

Golden Circle Route
The Golden Circle is the most travelled day route out of Reykjavik. It crosses a good deal of country and takes in three of the best known places in Iceland: the Geysir geothermal area, Gullfoss waterfall, and Thingvellir national park.
Strokkur
Strokkur is the smaller brother of Geysir, which no longer erupts. Strokkur does, every 7 to 10 minutes, throwing water high into the air. The lunch stop is usually here, about 40 minutes. Food can be bought on site.
Gullfoss Falls
Gullfoss is a waterfall on the Hvítá, the white river. It falls in two steps, 11 metres and 21 metres, with more than 100 m³ of water going over every second.
Thingvellir National Park
Thingvellir matters both historically and geologically. The first Icelandic parliament was founded here in the late 900s, and the boundary between the Eurasian and North American plates is visible on the ground.
Kerid Crater
Kerið is a volcanic crater, 55 metres deep.
