Golden Circle with a Tomato Farm and a Dairy: Kerid's Intact Caldera
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
ReykjavikA full day on the Golden Circle with two farms built into it, which is what separates this from the version that only stops at the three big sites. Þingvellir comes first: a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where the Icelandic parliament was established in 930 AD, and where the American and Eurasian plates meet. Öxarárfoss is there too, not among the largest waterfalls in the country but among the best loved, for where it sits and for the history attached to it. Efstidalur is a working dairy farm, and the ice cream is made there, organic, with the Icelandic cows in view. At Geysir, Strokkur erupts every five minutes. Gullfoss follows. Friðheimar grows tomatoes under glass, and lunch there is not included in the price. What is included is the explanation of how greenhouse horticulture works in a country with this climate, and the horses: Friðheimar breeds Icelandic horses, and a couple of them can be met and patted. Kerið closes the day. It is one of several crater lakes in the Western Volcanic Zone, which runs from the Reykjanes peninsula to the Langjökull glacier and formed as the land moved across a hotspot. Kerið is the one whose caldera has stayed most clearly intact.

Thingvellir National Park
One of the more interesting places in Iceland, geologically and historically. The American and Eurasian plates meet here, and this is where the general assembly was held: the Icelandic parliament was founded on this ground in 930 AD.
Oxararfoss
Not one of the biggest waterfalls in the country, but one of the best loved by Icelanders, for where it sits and for the history around it.
We will visit Efstidalur dairy farm for some ice cream and…
A stop at the Efstidalur dairy farm for ice cream, and for the Icelandic cows and the other animals.
Geysir
The Geysir geothermal area, where Strokkur erupts every five minutes.
Gullfoss Falls
Gullfoss, which tops most lists of the waterfalls worth seeing here, and is loud enough to explain why.
Fridheimar
Lunch at the tomato farm is not included. What comes with the stop is a short talk on how greenhouse horticulture works here. Friðheimar also breeds Icelandic horses, and a couple of them can be met and patted.
Kerid Crater
One of several crater lakes in what is called Iceland's Western Volcanic Zone, which runs from the Reykjanes peninsula to the Langjökull glacier and formed as the land moved over a hotspot. Kerið is the one whose caldera has stayed most recognisable.
