Gullfoss waterfall in winter

Five stops in one day, in a minibus with no more than 24 people on it. Þingvellir, where the North American and European plates meet. Strokkur, the geyser that throws water 20 metres up. Gullfoss. The crater lake at Kerið. And the Blue Lagoon at the end of it. The timing is worth noting: the bus leaves the Blue Lagoon at about 19:00 and drives back to Reykjavík, which puts you in the city late enough that dinner needs planning. Strokkur goes every 7 to 10 minutes, and the Geysir it is named after has not erupted for years. Food can be bought at that stop. Gullfoss falls in two steps, 11 metres and 21, with more than 100 cubic metres a second. Kerið is 6,500 years old and 55 metres deep. The departure point is outside the Storm Hotel.

  1. Þórunnartún 6, Reykjavík

    Outside the Storm Hotel.

  2. Golden Circle Route

The Golden Circle is the best known route out of Reykjavik, and it takes in three of the country's landmarks: the Geysir geothermal area, Gullfoss waterfall, and Thingvellir national park.

  3. Thingvellir National Park

Thingvellir matters for two reasons at once. The first Icelandic parliament was founded here in the late 900s, and the division between the Eurasian and North American plates can be seen from the path.

  4. Strokkur

Strokkur is the smaller one, and the active one: Geysir itself stopped years ago. Strokkur still goes every 7 to 10 minutes. Food can be bought at this stop.

  5. Gullfoss Falls

Gullfoss, on the white river Hvítá, falling in two steps of 11 and 21 metres, with over 100 m³ a second.

  6. Kerid Crater

Kerið is a volcanic crater 6,500 years old and 55 metres deep.

  7. Blue Lagoon

The last stop is the Blue Lagoon. The bus leaves there at about 7 pm for the drive back to Reykjavik.

    Costo extra

  8. Þórunnartún 6, Reykjavík
