Golden Circle by Minibus: Kerid Crater and the Blue Lagoon to Finish
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
ReykjavikOne day, one minibus, and the four things most people come to this corner of Iceland for. Þingvellir is a national park, the site of the first Icelandic parliament from the late 900s, and the place where the gap between two continental plates is wide enough to walk into. At the Geysir field, Strokkur is the one that still erupts, every 7 to 10 minutes. The original Geysir has been quiet for years, which is why nobody waits by it. Food can be bought there. Gullfoss puts the Hvítá down two steps, 11 metres and 21, at more than 100 cubic metres a second. Kerið is a volcanic crater 55 metres deep. The Blue Lagoon comes last, and the time spent there is the part most people remember. The water is geothermal, and it is what the place is known for. The group stays small, which on a route this busy makes a difference to how long each stop takes.

Golden Circle Route
The Golden Circle is the route most people take out of Reykjavik, and it covers three of Iceland's best known places: the Geysir geothermal area, Gullfoss waterfall, and Thingvellir national park.
Thingvellir National Park
Thingvellir is significant on two counts. The first Icelandic parliament was founded here in the late 900s, and the boundary between the Eurasian and North American plates runs through the ground in plain sight.
Strokkur
Strokkur still erupts, every 7 to 10 minutes. Geysir, the bigger and more famous one beside it, stopped years ago. Food can be bought at this stop.
Gullfoss Falls
Gullfoss takes the Hvítá down in two steps, 11 metres then 21, with over 100 m³ of water passing every second.
Kerid Crater
Kerið, a volcanic crater, 55 metres deep.
Blue Lagoon
The Blue Lagoon spa is where the day ends, and probably where it peaks. The water is geothermal, and it is what the place is known for.
