Fagradalsfjall and Meradalir Hike, then the Blue Lagoon: Admission Included
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
ReykjavikFour hours of walking and a hot spring at the end of it, with the Blue Lagoon admission in the price. The hike goes to the eruption sites at Meradalir and Fagradalsfjall, across lava fields with moss growing over them. It takes about two hours each way, and the route changes from day to day depending on conditions, so the difficulty runs between moderate and challenging. The 2021 eruption field is where you end up, and its scale is the thing photographs fail to convey. The Blue Lagoon comes afterwards, minutes away from the lava, which is a contrast the geology of this peninsula makes possible. On some departures there is also a stop at Lake Kleifarvatn. It is a bonus, not a fixture. What to wear matters here more than on most tours. Waterproof or water-resistant outer layers are strongly recommended, proper hiking or walking shoes are needed, and jeans are a bad idea: they soak through and stay wet for the rest of the day. Departure is from Tour Bus Stop 12 at Höfðatorg, outside the Storm Hotel.
