Etna Night Hike to Dawn: Craters and Lava Tunnel at First Light
A night walk on Etna, reserved for hikers with experience behind them. The route is done in the dark, with the stars overhead. The reason for starting at night is what happens at the end of it: the craters and the lava tunnel come out of the dark as the light arrives, so you see them for the first time already standing among them. The descent runs down through black sand, which is the gentle part and the return to ordinary daylight. Two practical notes. You follow the guide in your own car to the start, and there are no petrol stations up there, so arrive with a full tank.
