Etna Morning from Your Hotel: 2,000 m, Old Craters and a Lava Cave
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
SicilyA morning on the highest volcano in Europe, starting from where you are staying rather than from a meeting point in town. The trail climbs to 2,000 metres. Along it the guide covers how Etna came to exist, and the plants and animals that manage to live on it. The walking passes old and new lava flows and goes into the inner part of old craters, where the ground is bare enough that people reach for comparisons with the moon. After a break, the second half enters a lava cave with a helmet and a torch, and the route ends looking out over the Valle del Bove. The base is the Etna Est Info Point, which has a large free car park.

Mount Etna
The trail runs up to 2,000 metres above sea level. On the way the guide explains how the highest volcano in Europe was formed, and which plants and animals live on it. After old and new lava flows, the route continues on foot into the inner part of old craters. The ground there is bare and the shapes odd enough that most people end up comparing it to the moon. A short break, then the walk carries on into a lava cave, entered with a helmet and a torch. The last stretch goes through thick vegetation and ends at the Valle del Bove.
