A private Golden Circle in a 4x4 Super Jeep, which starts to matter once the tarmac ends. Þingvellir first, where the Icelandic parliament was founded more than a thousand years ago and where the North American and Eurasian plates are pulling apart slowly enough to walk between them. The ground the Viking settlers stood on to make law is still there. The Geysir field at Haukadalur has the hot springs, the steam vents and the blue algae, and Strokkur, which goes off almost every five minutes. Gullfoss falls into a deep gorge, high and heavy enough that plenty of people call it the best waterfall in the country. Faxi, further on, is small and worth the stop anyway. The jeep then goes up into the highlands towards Langjökull, whose name means long glacier and which covers 953 square kilometres, the second largest ice cap in Iceland. The ground up there is rough, which is what the vehicle is for. Because the booking is private, the itinerary can be changed to suit whoever is in the jeep.

  1. Thingvellir National Park

Thingvellir National Park, where the Icelandic parliament was founded over a thousand years ago. Here the ground is pulling apart along the North American and Eurasian plates, slowly, and you can stand where the Viking settlers stood to set down the country's laws.

  2. Site de Geysir

The Geysir geothermal area in Haukadalur: geysers, hot springs, steam vents and blue algae in the water. Strokkur is one of the largest and most powerful of them, and it goes off almost every five minutes.

  3. Gullfoss Falls

Gullfoss, which plenty of people call the queen of Icelandic waterfalls: high, heavy, and falling into a deep gorge.

  4. Langjokull Glacier

The drive goes on into the highlands, over rough ground, towards Langjökull, which means long glacier in Icelandic and is the second largest ice cap in the country at 953 km². You watch it from the Super Jeep, with stops at whatever is worth stopping for.

  5. Faxi (Vatnsleysufoss) Waterfall

Faxi, a small waterfall, and a good one.
