Lakagígar by Super Jeep, and the Walk up Mount Laki
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
South IcelandA full day out to the Lakagígar craters, inside Vatnajökull National Park, in a jeep built for it. These vehicles are modified in Iceland specifically for highland tracks and glacier ground, and this one has heating and air conditioning, which matters more up there than it sounds. Twelve passengers is the maximum. The driver is a local guide and works through the history and the geology of Lakagígar as the track goes on. Mount Laki sits in the middle of the row of craters, and you can walk up it. What you get from the top is the reason the row is worth seeing rather than reading about. The other stops are the Tjarnargígur crater, the Fagrifoss waterfall, whose name means beautiful waterfall, and the Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon. The day starts and finishes at Kirkjubæjarklaustur.
