Angra do HeroísmoThree volcanic sites on Terceira: Algar do Carvão, which is classified as a Natural Monument, the Christmas cave, and the smoke holes at Furnas do Enxofre. One thing to know before booking. Algar do Carvão has been closed since 19 October 2024 and no reopening date has been set. For as long as it stays shut, a hidden lava tube is shown in its place.

Gruta do Natal
A large geological formation, a lava tube in the interior of the island, inside the Serra de Santa Bárbara and Mistérios Negros Natural Forest Reserve.

Furnas do Enxofre
Furnas do Enxofre is in the parish of Porto Judeu, in the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, on Terceira. It is a fumarole field: several vents releasing aggressive volcanic gases at different temperatures, some of them very high.
Biscoitos
A lava tube that is not open to tourism, so nothing inside it has been fitted out, and very few people know where it is. Going in is optional.
