Teide, Then Bodegas Monje: Three Wines and a Terrace
A private day that starts on the volcano and ends at a table. Teide National Park is the first half. Volcanic cones, craters, lava and raised rock, with the stratovolcano itself at 3,715 metres, the highest point in Spain, standing over all of it. Altitude, climate and volcanic ground between them make the contrasts on this island sharper than most. Then the road drops down the La Orotava valley to El Sauzal, where the winery is. The vineyards there sit at 600 metres on ground too steep for machinery, so the vines are worked by hand. The guided visit, in English or Spanish, goes through the vineyard and the cellar and covers how the wine is made. Lunch follows on the restaurant terrace: Canarian cooking, with three wines to go with it, made from grapes that grow here and in few other places, Listán Negro, Listán Blanco and Negramoll among them.

Teide National Park
At the top of the island the ground turns to volcanic cones, craters, lava, dykes and raised rock formations. The plants and animals at this altitude are largely endemic. Teide National Park is UNESCO World Heritage for that reason, and the Teide stratovolcano stands over it at 3,718 metres, the highest point in Spain.
Valle de La Orotava
The road drops straight down the La Orotava valley towards a well-known winery at El Sauzal. The vineyards around it grow at 600 metres on slopes too steep for machinery, so every vine is worked by hand.
Bodegas Monje
A guided visit, in English or Spanish, through the vineyards and into the winery, where the production process is explained. Then lunch on the terrace of the winery restaurant, with the view that comes with it. The cooking is Canarian, and three wines come with the meal, made from grapes such as Listán Negro, Listán Blanco and Negramoll.
