Maui: Haleakala Sunrise Spectacular with Local Breakfast

Haleakala means the house of the sun, which is the reason people set an alarm for the middle of the night on Maui. A mini coach carries the group up the east side of the island to 9,740 feet, near the summit, for the sunrise. What happens there is a change of colour rather than an event, and it takes a while. The mountain is the largest dormant volcano in the world and the park covers over 30,000 acres. Two things live up here and in few other places: the nene, the Hawaiian goose, and the silversword. The descent gives back the views the dark hid on the way up, over Kula and out to the Pacific. Breakfast is the part that separates this from the other sunrise tours: a sit-down meal at Cafe O'Lei at the Plantation in Waikapu, rather than a pastry handed out at the summit. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.
