Guided Haleakala Sunrise Descent: 15 Miles from the Park Gate to Makawao
Sunrise at the summit, then a guided descent: a Bike Maui guide rides with the group rather than sending it off with a map. The riding starts at 6,500 feet just outside the National Park boundary and runs 15 miles down to Makawao, the Upcountry town on the mountain's slopes. Park entry is included, along with NAI certified guides, KONA mountain bikes, DAKINE backpacks, Helly Hansen rain gear and Bell helmets. Bring closed-toe shoes, layered clothing, a sweatshirt or jacket, a knit cap, sunglasses, sunscreen, water, snacks and a camera. Waiting for sunrise at the summit is the coldest part of most Maui holidays. Every rider signs a risk acknowledgment form before setting off. Riders must be 15 or older, over 4'10", under 270 lb, with recent riding experience and the physical capacity for the descent. Not for anyone pregnant or on medication that causes drowsiness. Closed-toe shoes are mandatory. Meet at the shop in the historic Haiku Marketplace, 810 Haiku Rd suite 120. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.
