Jeju Island South UNESCO Highlights Day Tour With Mt Halla

The south coast in the morning, the mountain in the afternoon, and one decision to make at the end of the day. Jeongbang Falls drops straight into the ocean, which no other waterfall in Asia does. When rain or rough tides close the path, the day goes to Cheonjiyeon instead, which is a woodland fall rather than a coastal one. Oedolgae is a rock 20 metres tall standing alone off the cliffs, and Olle Trail Route 7 runs past it: a 20-minute stretch along the top of the coast. Yakcheonsa Temple is a large Buddhist complex of stacked halls over the sea, with gold Buddha figures inside. O'sulloc sits in the tea fields on volcanic soil. Hallasan finishes the day, and here the tour splits. Anyone who wants the climb takes the Eoseungsaengak trail, which is short and steep and ends in a view that takes in the volcanic summit and the northern sea at once. Anyone who does not stays at the Eorimok Visitor Center with its nature gallery. Both options are included, and nobody has to justify their choice. The day ends at Dongmun market, where the black pork barbecue Jeju is known for is served nearby. The order of stops can change with weather and traffic. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.

  1. Jeongbang Waterfall

Jeongbang Falls is the only waterfall in Asia that drops straight into the sea, off the volcanic cliffs of the south coast. Driving time between stops is inside the tour duration, and the order can change or a stop be replaced for weather or traffic. If conditions are poor, Jeongbang becomes Cheonjeyeon.

  2. Cheonjiyeon Falls

When heavy rain or rough tides close the path to Jeongbang, the day goes to Cheonjiyeon instead, which sits quietly in woodland. Driving time is inside the tour duration, and the order of stops can change with weather or traffic.

  3. Oedolgae

Oedolgae is a 20-metre rock standing alone below the cliffs, with deep water around it. It is the clearest single image of what the volcano and the sea did to this coast. Driving time is inside the tour duration, and the order of stops can change.

  4. Jeju Olle Trail Route 7

A 20-minute walk on one of the best stretches of Olle Trail Route 7, along the clifftop with the sea below and the salt in the air. Driving time is inside the tour duration, and the order of stops can change.

  5. Yakcheonsa Temple

Yakcheonsa is a large Buddhist temple of stacked halls above the coast, with giant gilded Buddha figures inside and carved detail throughout. Driving time is inside the tour duration, and the order of stops can change.

  6. O’sulloc Tea Museum

O'sulloc stands in tea plantations that run to the horizon, on Jeju's volcanic soil, with the tea tradition and the modern buildings side by side. Driving time is inside the tour duration, and the order of stops can change.

  7. Eoseungsaengak Trail

The day ends on Hallasan, up the Eoseungsaengak trail, which is manageable and gives a full circle of view: the volcanic summit on one side, the northern sea on the other. Anyone who would rather not climb stays at the Eorimok Visitor Center and its nature gallery. Driving time is inside the tour duration, and the order of stops can change.

  8. Dongmun Market

The tour ends at Jeju's oldest market, with free time to walk it, and Jeju black pork barbecue served nearby.
