Sete Cidades for Cruise Passengers, with the Pineapple Greenhouses
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
Sao MiguelBuilt around a cruise call at Ponta Delgada. It starts at the Santo António pineapple plantation, where the fruit grows under glass. The greenhouses are open to walk through, the traditional growing method is explained, and there is fresh pineapple and local pineapple liqueur to taste. Then the drive up through the Sete Cidades volcano to the Vista do Rei viewpoint, where the Blue Lake and the Green Lake sit side by side inside the dormant crater. A stop follows in the village of Sete Cidades itself, with time for the neo-Gothic church of São Nicolau. The last stop before Ponta Delgada is the Miradouro do Escalvado, above the Ilhéus dos Mosteiros and the village of Mosteiros, which sits on a fan of old lava running into the sea. The return is timed to put you back on the ship before it leaves.
