Santorini Catamaran in a Small Group: Snorkel Gear and Dessert
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
SantoriniThe same coast the private charters work, taken in a small group instead, which is what keeps the price where it is. Hotel pick-up is included, in an air-conditioned vehicle, and the boat leaves from Vlychada. Red Beach first, for a swim and a snorkel under the red cliffs. Then White Beach, seen from the deck, with its white volcanic rock and the blue and white churches above the water. Past the Akrotiri lighthouse, one of the oldest in Greece, and along the Akrotiri coast, which is the quiet side of the island. At Nea Kameni the water is warm and heavy with minerals, and the boat gets in without the crowds the bigger operators bring with them. Mesa Pigadia is the long stop: swimming and snorkelling in the clearest water on this coast, with the gear provided, and then the BBQ. Grilled chicken, rice, pasta with a Mediterranean sauce, fresh salad, traditional dips, bread and a dessert, with drinks and local wine. Departures run in the morning and at sunset, and dolphins turn up on the route often enough to be worth watching for. The meeting point at Marina Vlychada is the ATM behind the mini market building, where a guide waits with a sign.

At Marina Vlychada, head for the mini market building. A little way behind it there is an ATM, and that is the meeting point. A guide will be there with a sign carrying the company name.
Santorini
Hotel pick-up from wherever you are staying on the island, in an air-conditioned vehicle, with the island passing the window on the way down to the marina. It is the part of the day nobody has to organise for themselves.
Vlychada
The cruise starts at Vlychada Marina, under cliffs that look more lunar than Mediterranean. Meet the crew, board the catamaran, and out.
Red Beach
A swim and a snorkel at the Red Beach, one of the odder things on this island: clear water directly under red cliffs.
White Beach
White Beach from the deck, with the white volcanic cliffs behind it. This one is looked at rather than landed on.
Lighthouse
The Akrotiri lighthouse from the water, one of the oldest in Greece, with the southern coast running alongside.
Santorini Caldera - Southern Panorama View
The Akrotiri coast: volcanic cliffs and rock shapes cut by the island's own history. This is the southern side, less visited than the north, and the deck is where to be for it.
Nea Kameni
Swimming by the volcano, in water warmed and mineralised by what is underneath. The stop is quieter than the big-boat version of it, and there is no rush to get back aboard.
Santorini Caldera - Southern Panorama View
Sailing into the caldera, with the cliffs above and the white villages along the top of them, blue domes included. The volcano stays ahead the whole way.
Mesa Pigadia Beach
The boat anchors at Mesa Pigadia for the longest stop. The water is the clearest on this coast, there are fish to look at, and the snorkelling gear is provided. Volcanic cliffs stand over the anchorage. After the swim the BBQ is cooked on board: grilled chicken, rice, pasta with a Mediterranean sauce, fresh salad, traditional dips, bread and a dessert. Drinks and local wine come with it.
Vlychada
Back to Vlychada with the island from the water. A morning departure gets the caldera in full light; an evening one ends in the sunset. Dolphins follow the boat sometimes.
Santorini
The vehicle takes you back to where it collected you, which is the tidy end of a long day on the water.
