Rinjani Senaru Rim: a Hotel Night Before the Climb, Drop-Off Anywhere on Lombok

Two days on the crater rim route, for people whose time on Lombok is short. The day before, the operator collects you and brings you to Senaru, where you check into a hotel. Starting a 2,000-metre climb after a night at the trailhead, rather than after a long drive that morning, is a real difference, and few of the packages here arrange it. The walk starts and finishes at Senaru village, inside Mount Rinjani National Park. From the rim: Lake Segara Anak with the new volcano rising in it, the summit above, and, across the water, Mount Agung on Bali and the three Gili islands, Trawangan, Meno and Air. Sunset from up there, then sunrise from the same place. The guides and porters come with the package, and the operator puts the quality of the trekking equipment first among what it promises. After breakfast on the second day, the walk goes back down to Senaru, and from there you get dropped wherever you are going next on Lombok.
