Rincón de la Vieja: 11 Cables, Horses and the Borinquen Steam Sauna

The day runs at Borinquen Mountain Resort and Spa, up in the Guanacaste mountain range on Rincón de la Vieja, and it has two halves that do not usually appear on the same ticket. The first is the zipline circuit, eleven cables strung through humid tropical forest, and a horseback ride afterwards with the Guanacaste hills in view. The second is the water: a real volcanic hot spring, mud baths and a natural steam sauna, which most adventure days do not include. Lunch is Costa Rican and included, and the service is private throughout. Pick-up is at 7:30 am, and the drive passes local villages, so the road counts as part of the day. Around the resort there are two species of monkey, toucans and hummingbirds, though they turn up when they want to rather than when the schedule says.
