Private Batur Jeep Sunrise and the Black Lava Field of the Last Eruption

Sunrise on Batur is normally earned on foot, in the dark, hours before first light. This tour takes the walk out of it. A 4WD jeep carries you up instead, and the sunrise is watched from wherever the jeep stops. What comes after dawn is the reason to stay. Batur is one of the most active volcanoes in Bali, and the ground below the crater is still covered by black lava from an eruption several hundred years ago. The jeep drives across it. Black sand in every direction, no vegetation to break it up, the volcano itself active above: the usual reaction is that it looks like a different planet, and that is close to accurate.
